The Friends of
the Library
This volunteer group helps to support the
library and its services. Members organize events
like book sales to raise money for the library. In
addition to books they have various articles for sale.
They also bring books and other borrowed materials
to people in the community who may have difficulty
visiting the library building.

The Barrier-Free
Committee
The committee's aim is to make four of
Atikokan's public buildings more accessible for
persons with disabilities. The library has been their
first project. Renovations were made. An elevator was
installed, a new washroom was added, and automatic
doors were put in. The committee has benefited from
numerous generous donations. An official Barrier-Free
opening was held in October of 2006.
CAP
The Community Access Program (CAP) is a
Government of Canada initiative, administered by Industry
Canada, that aims to provide Canadians with affordable
public access to the Internet and the skills they
need to use it effectively. Funding from CAP has allowed
the library to obtain computers for public use. Our
Cool Cap Cove offers free Internet access to library
members. Courses in Internet use will soon be offered
in our new community training room. These classes
are sponsored by CAP and will be conducted by our
CAP student employee. For further information see
the CAP web site.
